The Elders undertook a project this past year to refresh our church constitution, and now that we’ve completed that project, we’re asking for your vote of affirmation to adopt the changes.

Why did we start this project?
The Elders have spent significant time over the past several years discussing and documenting how we want FBC to operate as an Elder-led church with our growing ministries and staff. We determined that in some situations the current document was too prescriptive and in other cases was not as prescriptive as we think is wise.

What are the changes?

There are no changes to the purpose or doctrinal foundations of FBC (most all of those are defined in our church’s doctrinal statement). The changes do include:

• Added language that clarifies what responsibilities the Elders have as FBC’s governing body, the ability to delegate that authority, and specified situations when a membership notification and affirmation vote must occur.
• Added more clarity about how the Elders make decisions, including setting a minimum size of the Elder board (5).
• Described the biblical role of Deacon and added clarity about how the Deacons are selected.
• Streamlined a number of operational processes around fiscal years, how notifications are performed, membership processes, staff compensation processes, etc.
