Thomas James Dillon “Jamie”

A reception will be held at Foothills Bible Church on Tuesday, October 29 at 1:00 p.m.

Thomas James Dillon, “Jamie” died peacefully in his home surrounded by family on September 29th, 2024. He is survived by his wife Nancy, daughter Heather, son-in-law Brian and grandchildren Elijah, Whitney, Dalton and special grand puppies Winston and Chunk. Jamie served 5 years with the US Navy. During his time in the Navy Jamie learned the trade of machinery repair and completed a tour in Vietnam. After the Navy he worked at the Denver Water Department as a foreman of the Machine shop, retiring after 45 years. He was known to be able to fix anything. A close friend said, “If it’s made of metal, he can fix it or replace it.” Their shop made 2,000 of the Denver fire hydrants that are still operational. Jamie took pride in working as a machinist and valued the community of people that he worked with at the department. He welcomed anyone that came to the shop and was known to go the extra mile to personally assist his colleagues and friends. In his last days when he barely had the strength to drink, he requested, “May I please have some plain fresh Denver Water.” Then after taking a sip, he said, “that tastes so good.” Over the years he enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends. His favorite place they traveled to was Aruba. For 25 years he volunteered for Westernaires and participated in the harness team. It all started with his daughter. He would escort her to practice, shows and parades until he finally decided to join himself. Finding a home with the harness team, he enjoyed the camaraderie of the nice folks and working with the horses and mules. He especially liked the mules Fancy and Bandit. They were known to give him a hard time, but he liked the challenge despite being bitten, kicked and pulled. While driving the wagon at the National Western Stock Show performance, he would come barreling out of the arena petrifying whoever was riding with him. Endless hours were spent practicing with the team he loved so much, participating in parades and shows. Spare time was spent painting wagons. He especially loved the fire dept. wagon. In the years after retirement, Jamie continued to enjoy his time tooling around the garage. He and his grandson Elijah shared the love of Mustangs and could often be found in the garage working on one of their Mustangs or cooling off by washing the cars. He was known in the community as a friendly and welcoming face, always appreciating the company of a nice neighbor and their dog. Neighboring dogs would easily find their way to see him or Nancy as they always had a treat on hand. Every year he looked forward to the family camping trip to Steamboat where he could sit by the lake soaking up the sun, watching the birds or the family and dogs playing in the water. Thanksgiving was a special time of year celebrated at his niece Jennifer’s house, where he would always give a special thanks and recognition to his wife Nancy. Time with family was always special for him whether it be a simple family get together at his daughter Heather and son-in-law Brian’s house to play games or meeting at his favorite restaurant, Texas Roadhouse. Jamie will be missed by many, but his life will be celebrated as he knew how to live it.
